Congratulations to fashion designer Charlene Dunbar of Suakoko Betty who is featured in the September issue of Essence Magazine! The designer took to Facebook to express her joy:
“Look, let me brag on God a little bit. Years ago, I made a list of magazines I wanted to be featured in, and this week, one of those goals came to pass. No matter how impossible it seems, God is mighty and faithful! Thanks for all the love, support, patience and purchases…LEH-GO! #wontHedoit“
The brand was founded in 2007. “Suakoko” means “place of new beginnings” in the Liberian Kpelle dialect. Suakoko is also the name of a district in Liberia and a renowned female warrior-chief in Liberia.
In 2013, Charlene was chosen as one of 13 Belk Southern Designers; she went on to produce a collection for Belk stores and belk.com in Spring 2014.
