Lupita Nyong’o will make her New York stage debut this September in Eclipsed, an award-winning play set amid the Liberian civil war.
Eclipsed depicts an inspiring story of survival and courage and follows a brave group of women as they discover and test their own strength in a hostile environment.
The 32-year-old Oscar-winning actress will play the role of the”The Girl” who shakes up a vulnerable community when she becomes the latest addition to a rebel officer’s group of women being held captive. The play is written by Zimbabwean-American actress Danai Gurira, most known for her role on popular TV show “The Walking Dead”.
“A feminist reading of the Liberian Civil War, a war that was ended by women, Eclipsed is both heart-breaking and profoundly life-affirming. We are delighted to welcome the extraordinary Lupita Nyong’o to the Public in this vitally important play” said the theater’s artistic director, Oskar Eustis, in a press release.
Eclipsed is set to run from September 29 to November 8 at the The Public Theater in Manhattan. Ticket information can be found here.
