MacDella Cooper Gives Riveting Speech At Awards Ceremony

Often referred to as “Liberia’s Angel”, philanthropist Macdella Cooper delivered a riveting speech as she accepted the Philanthropist of the Year  honor bestowed onto her by The Young, Gifted, and Black (YGB) organization on February 25, 2015 in New York City. The YGB Entrepreneurial Awards honors persons of African descent who are doing commendable work in their communities. Cooper is the founder of The MacDella Cooper Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to providing Liberian youth, especially orphans and abandoned children, with an education, food, clothing, and shelter. Cooper’s speech was honest, provocative, courageous and inspiring.  Read a snippet of the speech:

“We were not called for mediocrity. If you’re sitting here and you’re just being one of the others, you’ve lost yourself; it is time you found yourself…your countries are waiting for you, your continent is waiting for you…those people who were shackled in chains and came across the Atlantic, some of them fell in the deep ocean. Their spirits are going to come after you until you pick up your responsibly. And I know I heard their voice many times, over and over, calling me home.”
